Member Profile: Bhagwan (Ben) Ramnani
Bhagwan (Ben) Ramnani brings a wealth of talent and experience to his position as Chair of the Greater Detroit Section of ASQ. He possesses a passion for teaching and improving Quality practice, a drive to establish realistic though ambitious goals, a talent for developing metrics that can be followed, and a quick wit.
In the 1960s Ben received a BS in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, followed by a BS in Mechanical Engineering while serving as a Production Engineer at Alcast Foundry in Bombay in his native India, before coming to the U.S. Midwest. While working at various industrial companies in the Detroit and Chicago areas, Ben found his niche in Quality, and received a Master of Science of Engineering Management from the University of Detroit. Ben names the late Hans Bajaria as having a personal influences on him in the Quality field.
Joining General Motors in 1984, Ben demonstrated his abilities in a series of positions of increasing scope and responsibility. From 2001 to the present, Ben has served in a senior position as Professional Development Manager for the Quality College of General Motors University. In addition to designing, developing and delivering Quality courses, Ben consults, coaches, and mentors corporate and divisional level quality management.
Ben lives with his wife in Rochester Hills, and has a grown son and daughter, of whose careers he is justifiably proud. On a more personal note, as one of many who was mentored through a successful CQE certification by Ben's training and has worked consistently with him over the last two years, I can attest to Ben's great love of teaching and learning, his intelligence and good will, his constant willingness to share his experience and understanding of Quality and other subjects, and sometimes especially his patience and persistence.
